Greater Fort Myers at a Glance
Located where the Caloosahatchee River spills into the Gulf of Mexico, most
of Fort Myers' activities
are centered around the water—including relaxing on the white sand beaches,
fishing, and boating. The Harborside
Event Center in Fort Myers offers a live entertainment venue for a variety
of performances. Visitors to the city can also see the winter
homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Nearby Naples
offers a similar coastal retreat, with the added bonus of exclusive hotels and
resorts, 35 golf courses, numerous shops and tours of the Everglades. Another
treat in the Greater Fort Myers area is a visit to Marco
Island, the largest of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands. The Calusa
Nature Center and Planetarium in Fort Myers provides a venue for visitors
to enjoy the natural world, both terrestrially and in the cosmos. Sanibel
is home to the Old
Schoolhouse Theater, a rennovated one-room school house that today features
live performances.
